Doreen Valiente was born in Liverpool, England on January 24, 1924. She grew up during the Depression and began working as a child, first as a governess and later as a bookkeeper. In 1953 she left the Society and became a writer. She published her first book, The Tarot: A Key to the Wisdom of the Ages, that same year. Her second book, The poetry of astrology, was published in 1955.
It was followed by many other books on astrology, such as Astrology: The Key to Life (1959) and Tarot: A New Approach (1967). Her books include Tarot: The Key to Your Inner Self (1968), The Art of Astrology (1971), Ra: The Ancient Egyptian Book of Knowledge (1975), Daily Horoscopes (1978), and Daily Forecasts (1982). Doreen died in 1990 at age 74.
